HEKS/EPER, Swiss Church Aid, is the aid organisation of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland and has its headquarters in Zurich/Switzerland. HEKS/EPER provides humanitarian and emergency aid and tackles the causes of hunger, injustice and social deprivation both in Switzerland and abroad. HEKS/EPER has its own coordination offices in approximately 20 key countries and around 200 projects worldwide. HEKS/EPER is a member of the ACT Alliance. For our South Sudan programme, HEKS/EPER is recruiting a strong candidate to fulfil the role of:

Deputy Country Director / Programme coordinator Humanitarian Aid

The mandate:

  • Assess the needs for humanitarian aid projects
  • If needed, develop and coordinate the implementation of humanitarian aid projects
  • Support partner organizations in their organizational development and monitor the implementation of their projects (M&E)
  • Finalize new project proposals submitted by local partner organizations
  • Network with other humanitarian actors in South Sudan (INGO, ACT Alliance partners and donor agencies)
  • Support the programme implementation in the sector of WASH and livelihood
  • Conduct regular project monitoring and financial checks of projects and partners
  • Act as Deputy Country Director

Qualifications:

  • Minimum ten years experience in the humanitarian sector abroad

  • Sound expertise in the sectors of livelihood and WASH

  • Experience in working with INGO, experience with Swiss actors will be considered as an asset

  • Sound knowledge of proposal writing, budget management, monitoring and evaluation

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant international standards (emergency and recovery phases)

  • University degree in a relevant field

  • Ability to work both independently and with teams, excellent facilitation skills, sensitivity for gender & social equity and local culture

  • Ability to work in insecure settings and under pressure

  • Language skills: excellent written and oral proficiency in English
