HEKS/EPER (Hilfswerk der Evangelischen Kirchen Schweiz/ Entraide Protestante Suisse) is the aid organisation of the Protestant Churches of Switzerland. HEKS/EPER has its headquarters in Zurich/Switzerland and works in more than 20 countries in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid. HEKS/EPER supports more than 200 projects of mostly local or national partner organizations in the programmatic key countries. HEKS/EPER is a member of the ACT Alliance. Ethiopia is one of the key countries of the international cooperation. The thematic focusses of the development program in Ethiopia are food sovereignty, access and protection of natural resources and resilience building in rural contexts.

We are looking for a committed development professional (m/f) for the following job position

HEKS/EPER Country Director for Ethiopia

Your responsibilities:

  • Steer, monitor and implement the HEKS/EPER Country Program in Ethiopia with its project portfolio
  • In close cooperation with the Desk Officer at HQ, ensure the strategic development of the HEKS/EPER Country Program
  • Represent HEKS/EPER in Ethiopia vis-à vis the Ethiopian Government and its institutions, in the international donor community and other national and international organizations
  • Participate actively as representative from HEKS/EPER in networks related to the thematic priorities
  • Accompany, advice and assist the partner organisations in their project implementation and support them in their institutional development. This includes frequent traveling into the field to visit partner organizations.
  • Manage the Country Office of HEKS/EPER in Addis Ababa and lead the team of national personnel including project officers and finance/administration staff
  • Supervise the administrative and financial responsibilities and processes of the HEKS Office in Addis Ababa
  • Explore opportunities for fundraising and acquisition of mandates

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree in international development cooperation, management or other thematic specialization relevant to the HEKS/EPER program in Ethiopia
  • At least 10 years of experience in program and project management in the field of development cooperation, of which minimum 5 years in a higher management position with similar responsibilities and in different developing countries
  • Experience in the thematic fields of food sovereignty, agroecology and protection of natural resources
  • Analytical skills, proven track record in conceptual and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills for supervising administration, finances, human resources and logistics
  • Cultural sensitivity, flexibility, pro-active attitude and spirit for new initiatives
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
